California Women's Windball Cricket League has received a timely boost for its 2011 competitions with the presentation of a cheque for $10,000 from Pt Lisas-based company Super Industrial Services (SIS).
After the presentation yesterday, SIS Marketing Officer Ainsworth Martinez said the company was pleased to assist the league in its operations since it was fully committed to the development of sporting and cultural activities in its home community of Pt Lisas/Couva/California.
Founder and President of the California Women's Windball Cricket League, Wilton 'Flex' Griffith, was grateful for the timely financial assistance from SIS, especially as the league is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. "We are a self-funding league and we welcome all contributions we can get to help us run our operations. We hope that other corporate entities in the region will follow the lead of Super Industrial Services," Griffith noted. The $10,000 SIS cheque will go toward prize money for the league champions ($6000) and runners-up ($3,500), with $500 for the winners of the Knock-out competition.
Combine Forces and Players will contest the final of the league competition at Macaulay Park in California, on June 11. The championship match is the second of a double-header which will start at 4 pm with the playoff for third and fourth places between Desert United and Victors XI. The highly successful 2011 season comes to an exciting end on June 12 with the KO competition, featuring all 12 teams, followed by the presentation of team and individual awards for all competitions.
