Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar was too dis­traught to speak with the me­dia af­ter vis­it­ing her hus­band Dr Gre­go­ry Bisses­sar at the St Clair Med­ical Cen­tre yes­ter­day. This was re­vealed by Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Dr Tim Gopeesingh, who was asked by the Prime Min­is­ter to speak with the me­dia about her hus­band's med­ical con­di­tion. Bisses­sar was ad­mit­ted to the hos­pi­tal yes­ter­day for an an­giog­ra­phy.

Per­sad-Bisses­sar ar­rived at the hos­pi­tal at noon, about two hours af­ter the pro­ce­dure was suc­cess­ful­ly com­plet­ed. She was met by Gopeesingh, who ear­li­er in the morn­ing had ac­com­pa­nied Dr Bisses­sar to the in­sti­tu­tion.

Deputy House Speak­er Dr Fuad Khan and Per­sad-Bisses­sar's sis­ter were al­so present. A sad look­ing Per­sad-Bisses­sar emerged from her hus­band's hos­pi­tal bed­side af­ter 1.30 pm. She de­clined in­vi­ta­tions from the me­dia to speak with them. She left the hos­pi­tal mo­ments lat­er. In a brief in­ter­view with re­porters out­side the hos­pi­tal, Gopeesingh con­firmed that the PM was too sad to speak. "She is very sad about the sit­u­a­tion, see­ing her hus­band hav­ing to un­der­go this...The prime min­is­ter is very un­hap­py, so she left be­cause she is very sad," Gopeesingh said. Per­sad-Bisses­sar did not give her usu­al ac­knowl­edg­ment to the me­dia as she was seem­ing­ly very sad.

Gopeesingh said the doc­tors were to ad­vise Dr Bisses­sar on his op­tions as there ap­peared to be some block­age in his sys­tem and surgery might be re­quired. "There is some de­gree of oc­clu­sion and a de­ci­sion will have to be made, de­pend­ing on the for­mal ev­i­dence and dis­cus­sion with the car­di­ol­o­gist team," Gopeesingh added. Dr Bisses­sar left the hos­pi­tal lat­er in a wheel­chair.

Gopeesingh said an an­giog­ra­phy "de­ter­mines whether there is oc­clu­sion or pa­ten­cy" in the blood ves­sels in the heart.
