One of the People's Partnership coalition partners, the Movement for Social Justice (MSJ), says Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar must remove her special adviser Sasha Mohammed from her employ with immediate effect.MSJ public relations officer Gregory Fernandez, in a statement yesterday, said police reports that threatening emails to Express Editor-in-Chief Omatie Lyder and reporter Anna Ramdass were unacceptable."The MSJ is of the belief that there is no place for this type of unethical behaviour in the politics of Trinidad and Tobago and this matter should be dealt with the urgency it deserves," Fernandez said."We believe that solid investigative journalism that seeks transparency in public affairs is a great feature of our democracy, particularly in its efforts to keep our leaders honest and promote the highest standards of governance."
Fernandez said the MSJ despised and disapproved of all and any attempts at intimidation to silence the voice of the media.Police claimed the threatening e-mail came from an address belonging to Mohammed. But Mohammed, through her lawyers, has denied the claims. Her lawyers have written to Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs seeking verification of what offence she might have committed.Several Opposition politicians and organisations have called for Mohammed's removal, but the Prime Minister has remained silent on the issue.
