An investigation has been launched into the disappearance of a quantity of compressed marijuana lodged at Couva Police Station in April as a court exhibit. While investigators remained tight-lipped on the details of the probe, a spokesman said the drugs were reported missing on Wednesday. According to a source, the exhibit, three packets of marijuana amounting to 1.556 kilogrammes, formed part of an investigation arising out of a shooting incident on April 18 this year at Pranz Gardens.
The exhibit was lodged at the property room in the station after a court matter from the shooting. This week, officers investigating the shooting moved the drugs from the property room to the nearby charge room to be taken for testing. However, upon retrieving the marijuana from the charge room, officers realised a difference in weight. The package was opened and two packets of the compressed marijuana were found. One of the packets was missing. Investigations are continuing.
