Recently-appointed Police Superintendent Nazul Hosein appeared before a Princes Town magistrate on Tuesday for failing to appear in court on a matter.Hosein had given himself up at the Princes Town Police Station after learning that a warrant was issued for his arrest.He appeared before Senior Magistrate Indrani Cedeno in the First Court, accompanied by his attorney Dane Halls.
The magistrate had taken out the warrant on May 25 after the policeman failed to appear in court to give evidence in a preliminary inquiry.Halls explained to the magistrate that Hosein was out of the jurisdiction. He said Hosein sent a message to the court that he was scheduled to leave the country two days before he was due to give evidence, but the message did not reach the court.Halls told the magistrate that his client meant no disrespect and had expressed sincere apologies to the court. The magistrate accepted Hosein's explanation and apology.Hosein will return to court on July 11 to give evidence in the inquiry. (SW)
