Attorneys involved the Daniel Guerra murder case are sorting out preliminary matters before the inquiry into the eight year-old boy's killing begins.This was revealed when Police Constable Darwin Ghouralal, who is charged with the boy's murder, returned to the San Fernando First Magistrate's court on Tuesday.Daniel's semi-decomposed body was found floating in the Tarouba River days after he was reported missing from his Bedeau Street, Gasparillo, home on February 18.The matter was called before Clerk of the Peace Alfred Ali, who adjourned matters in the absence of Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington.When the matter was initially mentioned by defence attorney Sophia Chote at around 9.45 am, Ghouralal was not in court. The attorney asked police prosecutor Sgt Alimudeen Mohammed to have her client brought into the courtroom.At 9.50 am, Ghourlal, who was not handcuffed, was escorted to the prisoner's holding bay in the First Court. He was the lone prisoner in the courtroom at the time.
Prosecutor Mauriceia Joseph appeared for the State. Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (South) Joan Honore-Paul is leading the State's case.Chote, who is instructed by attorney Michelle Solomon, told Ali the matter was for mention yesterday."I have spoken with my friend (Joseph) and she has agreed to adjourn to July 19 for mention as we sort out preliminary matters," Chote explained.Ali agreed and adjourned the matter to July 19.Daniel's grandmother Shirley Indarsingh was in court for the hearing.
