A joint investigation has been launched by the Defence Force and the Police Service into the alleged assault of a police officer by members of the Regiment at Bhagna Trace, Chaguanas, last Saturday.Civil Military Affairs Officer, Captain Al Alexander, who confirmed that in a press release yesterday, said investigations by the Regiment had been helpful to the police."Both organisations see this as an isolated incident, which in no way threatens the close, well established, long-standing relationship that has developed over decades," Alexander said."It is through this collaboration the alleged perpetrators were identified and are being processed at this time." he added.
According to Alexander, both organisations are committed to disseminating accurate information to all stakeholders and collaborate with law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety and security of citizens.Police said the victim, the son of a senior police officer, is assigned to the Central Division.According to reports, the victim was sitting in his car when he was accosted by a group of men who dragged him out and beat him. His licensed firearm also was allegedly taken during the fracas.Three suspects were subsequently detained. The victim was taken to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex where he was treated and warded.
