Police shot a murder suspect to death at his Santa Flora home early yesterday morning. According to a report, Steve Pyrus, 43, was shot in the chest when he confronted police officers with a gun and ignored their order to drop the weapon. He was taken to the Siparia Health Facility, but there was no doctor on duty. By the time he was taken to San Fernando General Hospital he was dead.
At around 5.30 am, policemen from the Homicide Bureau, South Western Task Force, Crime Suppression Unit and Robbery Squad, executed search warrants at the homes of four suspects. They were all suspects in the murder of Tunapuna resident Ian King, who was shot and killed at around one o'clock last Saturday morning at Agepita Avenue, Santa Flora.
When the officers entered Pyrus' house, he was in a ground floor room. He threatened to shoot the policemen if they ventured any closer. The officers said they ordered Pyrus to drop the weapon but he refused and instead began walking towards the officers with the gun pointed at them. He was shot in the chest. Police recovered a shotgun and a 16 gauge cartridge at the scene. ASP Andy Belfour is investigating.
