Po­lice shot a mur­der sus­pect to death at his San­ta Flo­ra home ear­ly yes­ter­day morn­ing. Ac­cord­ing to a re­port, Steve Pyrus, 43, was shot in the chest when he con­front­ed po­lice of­fi­cers with a gun and ig­nored their or­der to drop the weapon. He was tak­en to the Siparia Health Fa­cil­i­ty, but there was no doc­tor on du­ty. By the time he was tak­en to San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal he was dead.

At around 5.30 am, po­lice­men from the Homi­cide Bu­reau, South West­ern Task Force, Crime Sup­pres­sion Unit and Rob­bery Squad, ex­e­cut­ed search war­rants at the homes of four sus­pects. They were all sus­pects in the mur­der of Tu­na­puna res­i­dent Ian King, who was shot and killed at around one o'clock last Sat­ur­day morn­ing at Agepi­ta Av­enue, San­ta Flo­ra.

When the of­fi­cers en­tered Pyrus' house, he was in a ground floor room. He threat­ened to shoot the po­lice­men if they ven­tured any clos­er. The of­fi­cers said they or­dered Pyrus to drop the weapon but he re­fused and in­stead be­gan walk­ing to­wards the of­fi­cers with the gun point­ed at them. He was shot in the chest. Po­lice re­cov­ered a shot­gun and a 16 gauge car­tridge at the scene. ASP Andy Belfour is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
