Magistrate insists on dress code in court
A San Fernando magistrate yesterday instructed police officers not to allow improperly dressed persons to enter her courtroom. Magistrate Lisa Ramsumair-Hinds, who presided in the Second Court, said people must adhere to the dress code. Speaking to Court and Process officers she inquired about a dress code notice which used to be posted on the building. She said people wearing clothing, such as thin straps and strapless, hats, jerseys with marijuana leaves and “dirty” words and various headgear, should not be allowed in the court. Court prosecutor Ramdath Phillip said security personnel said they could not prevent people from entering the building. Ramsumair-Hinds said she had raised the issue with Chief Magistrate Marcia Ayers-Caesar and she was concerned about it. However, while that is being sorted out, Ramsumair-Hinds, who usually presides in the Sixth Court, made it clear to the officers people improperly attired must not be allowed to enter her courtroom.
