The Roman Catholic Youth Commission, in collaboration with Msgr Christian Pereria, parish priest of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, San Fernando, will host Solidarity II, a Catholic youth jamboree on Sunday on the San Fernando Hill. The event, also called Youth Jamboree and Viva Catolica, will engage the young people in various activities, the highlight of which will be a special talk by Father Cornelius Phillip, of San Juan Parish, at 11 am. The main focus of the event is the sending off for the 120 youth delegates from T&T for the international celebrations of World Youth Day (WYD) in Spain from August 16 to 21.
These delegates will join their Caribbean counterparts, as well as other young people from around the world, for this special occasion. Another area of focus will be the themes identified by Pope Benedict XVI for WYD 2011 which include conserving nature as an important dimension of gospel fidelity, using social networks as a tool for evangelisation and the faith security of Catholic youths. The day begins at 8 am and ends with Holy Mass at 3 pm. Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Edward Gilbert who will retire on December 27.
