The de­com­pos­ing body of a 56-year-old man of Pa­tience Hill, To­ba­go, has been found close to his home.Vil­lagers dis­cov­ered the body of Au­gus­tus "Peck" Thomas short­ly af­ter 8 am on Sat­ur­day when they went to check on a foul stench com­ing from some bush­es.The body, which was wrapped in bag, was found six­ty feet down an in­cline in some bush­es ap­prox­i­mate­ly 150 me­tres from Thomas' home. He was last seen alive on Wednes­day.Ac­cord­ing to po­lice re­ports blood was seen in the area where the de­ceased lived and a hoe, be­lieved to be the mur­der weapon, was found near­by.Al­lis­ter Thomas, broth­er of the vic­tim, said he be­lieved Thomas was beat­en to death.

"He lived peace­ful­ly with every­body. Every­one around here knew him so I don't see rea­son why they had to kill him."They beat him be­cause there was a hoe stick up where he used to sleep and like they mashed up the stick on him, killed him and dumped him down here."Vil­lagers de­scribed Thomas as a very help­ful man who was not a trou­ble mak­er.Dis­trict Med­ical Of­fi­cer Dr Clink­er or­dered the body re­moved to the Scar­bor­ough Hos­pi­tal Mor­tu­ary for an au­top­sy.The To­ba­go Homi­cide Bu­reau is con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
