More than 150 rounds of am­mu­ni­tion, sev­er­al com­po­nents of a AK-47 as­sault ri­fle and four smoke grenades were dis­cov­ered yes­ter­day by po­lice dur­ing an ear­ly morn­ing ex­er­cise in Diego Mar­tin. At around 6 am, of­fi­cers of the North-East­ern Di­vi­sion Task Force (NEDTF), led by Sgt Roger Alexan­der, made the dis­cov­ery at a forest­ed area in Good Ses­sion, Pat­na Vil­lage, Diego Mar­tin. A po­lice is­sue bul­let­proof vest al­so was found by the of­fi­cers.

No ar­rests were made. Po­lice say the dis­cov­ery was linked to a re­cent bust by the Or­gan­ised Crime, Nar­cotics and Firearms Bu­reau (OC­NFB), when three sim­i­lar ri­fles were re­cov­ered in a ve­hi­cle trav­el­ling along the Au­drey Jef­fers High­way, near the Jean Pierre Com­plex. A 27-year-old man from Diego Mar­tin was ar­rest­ed in con­nec­tion with that ex­er­cise. Sgt Cor­nelius Samuel, Cpl Sunil Bharath and PCs Jerome Gor­don and Trevor Ram­baran al­so were in­volved in the ex­er­cise. In­ves­ti­ga­tions are con­tin­u­ing.
