The 11-year-old daughter of a policewoman was killed on Thursday night when a steel gate fell on her at her Tumpuna Road home in Arima. Jessica John, a Standard Four pupil of the Arima Girls' RC School, died while receiving medical treatment at the Arima Health Facility. A report said around 9.45 pm, WPC Radica Singh-John, of the Arouca Police Station, returned home and Jessica went to open the gate for her. The gate fell on Jessica, causing her to fall backwards, hitting her head. She was pinned to the ground. She was taken for medical assistance but she succumbed to her injuries, police said. Detectives said the sliding gate went off the tracks. Arima police are continuing investigations.
