Government Information Services Ltd chairman Jai Parasram has resigned the position due to ill health, Information Minister Suruj Rambachan has confirmed. Parasram was among GISL board members appointed in February. Rambachan said yesterday, "Parasram became very ill and has returned to Canada for medical treatment." Parasram had been based in Canada prior to coming to T&T, following the PP coalition's general election triumph.
It is understood Parasram had been tending cardiac issues and has returned to Canada. Based on that situation, Parasram had to remain in Canada for some time. No one has yet been appointed to replace him, according to Rambachan. The GISL board, which has no deputy chairman, is made up of Radica Maharaj, Anjanie Jairam, Majid Mohammed, Gail Prince-Persad, Kirt Waldron, Louis Villafana, Nezam Liston Dookie-Taylor and Nickson Trotman.
