The miraculous landing of Caribbean Airlines flight BW 523 last Saturday in Guyana must serve to reinforce CAL's commitment to its enviable safety record, says Jamaican Prime Minister Bruce Golding. In a statement issued last Sunday, Golding sent an expression of deep regret to T&T and Guyana, after the CAL aircraft ended up broken-but sustaining no fatalities-upon its landing at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.Golding said he sent statements to Guyana's President Bharrat Jadgeo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
"We await the outcome of the investigation to determine the cause of the accident," he said."Caribbean Airlines has had an enviable safety record and has been committed to the practices that ensure aviation safety."This unfortunate accident must serve to reinforce that commitment," Golding added.Golding expressed his immediate concern for the welfare of the passengers and crew. Jamaica had supported T&T's concerns in the recent issue concerning the licensing of REDjet to operate in both islands.(GA)
