After being burnt, beaten and kidnapped, a Couva man is thanking God that he managed to escape the hands of his abductors on Friday night. Marlon Lalchan, 33, wrestled to release himself from his Nissan Sentra after four men bundled him into the trunk and fled. Police said around 9 pm, Lalchan, a contractor, left his Milton Road home to meet with his employer at Perseverance Road. Lalchan told police he received an undisclosed sum of cash from his employer and was heading back to his car when four men armed with cutlasses accosted him. The men began to beat the victim with their cutlasses. They robbed him of cash and then threw a corrosive liquid on his hands.
Lalchan was thrown into the trunk of his car by the men who then drove off. The vehicle came to a halt a short distance away at Flamingo Road and Lalchan managed to free himself. The victim was able to contact Couva police where Sergeant Balkaran and Constable Radhiykisson responded and a statement was taken. The victim was then rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where he was warded in stable condition. Police combed the area in search of the four assailants but were unsuccessful. Searches continued yesterday morning. Constable Radhiykisson is continuing investigations.
