Po­lice were last night prob­ing the death of a 13-month-old ba­by found float­ing in a par­tial­ly-cov­ered cesspit at his home in Cashew Gar­dens, Long­denville. In­ves­ti­ga­tors said the child's death might be a case of neg­li­gence. Ba­by Gen­e­sis Ko­riya was found float­ing in the cesspit around 11 pm on Sat­ur­day.

Po­lice said the child was dis­cov­ered miss­ing from the house short­ly be­fore 11 o'clock, and a search was con­duct­ed.

The man who found the ba­by and who asked not to be iden­ti­fied, said it was while search­ing for the child he was told that there was a sec­ond out­house on the premis­es. It was while check­ing the sec­ond cesspit that he found the child. He said he im­me­di­ate­ly took the child and his17-year-old moth­er to the Ch­agua­nas Health Cen­tre where the ba­by was pro­nounced dead.
