Police were last night probing the death of a 13-month-old baby found floating in a partially-covered cesspit at his home in Cashew Gardens, Longdenville. Investigators said the child's death might be a case of negligence. Baby Genesis Koriya was found floating in the cesspit around 11 pm on Saturday.
Police said the child was discovered missing from the house shortly before 11 o'clock, and a search was conducted.
The man who found the baby and who asked not to be identified, said it was while searching for the child he was told that there was a second outhouse on the premises. It was while checking the second cesspit that he found the child. He said he immediately took the child and his17-year-old mother to the Chaguanas Health Centre where the baby was pronounced dead.
