A 38 year-old murder suspect was among 23 people arrested during an anti-crime exercise in the Princes Town and Barrackpore districts yesterday. The suspect, held in connection with a recent murder in the Tunapuna area, was handed over to Eastern Homicide Bureau officers yesterday after he was picked up in Barrackpore.
Police sources declined to disclose which murder the man had been detained in connection with since the investigation is at a sensitive stage. Yesterday's anti-crime exercise, supervised by Sgt Don Gajadhar, was conducted between 12 am and 2 pm. Acting Sgt Francois and Cpl Inshan Teeluck, together with officers of the Princes Town and Barrackpore Criminal Investigations Department and the Canine Unit, conducted the raids.
Others detained were held in connection with various offences including possession of narcotics, house breaking, larceny and robbery. Other suspects were held on outstanding warrants. A total of 300 grammes in marijuana was seized.
