Former housing minister under the People's National Movement (PNM) Dr Vincent Lasse is expected to be appointed as chairman of the Public Transport Service Corporation (PTSC) today. Lasse, 74, replaces Devant Maharaj who was elevated to Transport Minister when Cabinet was reshuffled by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar in June. Lasse is also a member of the board of directors of the Environmental Management Authority. He served as a Member of Parliament for Point Fortin from 1991 to 2000. In February 1997, Lasse was expelled from the PNM after indicating he wanted to became an independent MP. He joined the PNM in 1976. Hours after he left the PNM, Lasse was sworn in as a minister in the Basdeo Panday coalition government. In 2000, he lost the Point Fortin seat to Larry Achong.
