A Southern Division police officer is warded in a stable condition at the San Fernando General Hospital after he was accidently shot in the chest on Thursday night. PC Adesh Gokool, of the Southern Division Task Force, was on duty at the San Fernando Police Station at around 10 pm when a fellow officer, who was cleaning a service revolver, accidentally fired the weapon.
The bullet ricocheted off a steel cabinet before striking Gookol in the left side of his chest. He was taken to hospital where he underwent emergency treatment. Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs, commenting on the incident at yesterday's Ministry of National Security media briefing, said the officer was resting comfortably and had not suffered life-threatening injuries. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
