Health Min­is­ter Dr Fuad Khan is propos­ing a re­ward sys­tem for re­gion­al cor­po­ra­tions re­duc­ing the pres­ence of dengue in their ar­eas. The min­is­ter was speak­ing yes­ter­day at a con­sul­ta­tion on pub­lic health is­sues af­fect­ing the re­gions in T&T, con­duct­ed at the Trinidad Hilton and Con­fer­ence Cen­tre, Port-of-Spain. Khan praised the ef­forts be­ing tak­en by re­gion­al cor­po­ra­tions, es­pe­cial­ly the Ma­yaro/Rio Claro Re­gion­al Cor­po­ra­tion, that have had few­er than ten cas­es of dengue over the past year.

He at­trib­uted the suc­cess to in­tia­tives tak­en by the min­istry. Khan said to en­cour­age cor­po­ra­tions' re­gion­al health in­spec­tors, the min­istry will look at cre­at­ing an ini­tia­tive to re­ward cor­po­ra­tions and their in­spec­tors up­on re­duc­ing cas­es of dengue by a cer­tain per­cent­age with­in the ju­ris­dic­tion. He said he would con­sult with both the min­istry's le­gal team and the Min­istry of Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment to find ef­fec­tive ways to im­ple­ment the pro­posed re­ward scheme.
