Officers from the Port-of-Spain CID yesterday swooped down on a car dealership on the Caroni Savannah Road, Charlieville. Personnel from the Criminal Investigations Unit received information that could possibly lead to build a case against Selwyn "Robocop" Alexis. Alexis, 45, of Cashew Gardens, Enterprise, Chaguanas, was up to late yesterday being questioned by officers at the Central Police Station in Port-of-Spain. Investigators said the dealership had connections with Alexis. The lawmen cordoned off the area and made a search of the compound and vehicles on the premises around 3 pm.
Alexis had been charged with several crimes in the past. He was held by police on Tuesday night while visiting his apartment at One Woodbrook Place. Alexis was renting an apartment in the multi-million-dollar complex for several months before his arrest. He was questioned by officers of the South Homicide Bureau in the matter of a murder of a Chaguanas man. Police said Alexis, who had been under surveillance for some time, was held after he drove his vehicle into the basement car park of the complex. Investigators were also attempting to trace the chassis number of a Toyota Hilux that was on the compound. Detectives said the chassis number matched a Hyundai Tuscon vehicle.
