Opposition MP Colm Imbert says Government has allowed drug dealers to run rampant through the country. He said Government has concentrated the resources of the armed forces into certain areas and left all ports of entry open for drugs. Imbert said: "Who is this Government trying to protect? "Who are they working with? "A sensible person could come only to that inescapable conclusion that what they say and what they are doing is two different things." Imbert was speaking to the media at the Red House during a press conference by the Opposition Leader Dr Keith Rowley yesterday. Imbert said Government's map highlighting the hot spot areas had nothing to do with drug trafficking.
He said: "They have left all of the areas of Trinidad and Tobago where drugs come into the country, open and unguarded." Imbert said areas such as Toco, Balandra, Icacos and Cedros were well-known points of entry for illegal drugs and guns. He said the map was irrelevant and was a farce. Imbert claimed he had seen a 2010 report on the location of criminal gangs which Government had in its possession. He said: "The Government has not explained why they have taken this very drastic action to deal with what they say is a threat from drug traffickers who they claim were going to cause a blood bath and mayhem and chaos and blood in the streets of Trinidad and Tobago."
