All complaints of abuse by police officers during the state of emergency will be thoroughly investigated, says Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. Speaking in Parliament yesterday, she said: "Thus far, the army and police have been professional, mature and responsible in the discharge of their duties. "Complaints have been few and far between.
All complaints of abuse will be thoroughly and properly investigated and any officer found guilty will feel the full brunt of the law. "The rejuvenation of public confidence that is presently taking place must not be undermined or spoilt by wanton abuse of power. I therefore urge all our officers to exercise their power in a responsible, fair, impartial and fearless manner," the PM said.
