All com­plaints of abuse by po­lice of­fi­cers dur­ing the state of emer­gency will be thor­ough­ly in­ves­ti­gat­ed, says Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar. Speak­ing in Par­lia­ment yes­ter­day, she said: "Thus far, the army and po­lice have been pro­fes­sion­al, ma­ture and re­spon­si­ble in the dis­charge of their du­ties. "Com­plaints have been few and far be­tween.

All com­plaints of abuse will be thor­ough­ly and prop­er­ly in­ves­ti­gat­ed and any of­fi­cer found guilty will feel the full brunt of the law. "The re­ju­ve­na­tion of pub­lic con­fi­dence that is present­ly tak­ing place must not be un­der­mined or spoilt by wan­ton abuse of pow­er. I there­fore urge all our of­fi­cers to ex­er­cise their pow­er in a re­spon­si­ble, fair, im­par­tial and fear­less man­ner," the PM said.
