Relatives of Nigel Castillo, who took his own life after killing his common-law wife, said he wrote a letter to his siblings confessing to the crime.Castillo, a father of three and a contractor, died at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex on Monday after drinking gramaxone. The bottle was found near his body. His common-law wife, Kerincia Diamond, of Acono Road, Maracas/St Joseph, was found dead hours earlier on the roadside near a housing development at Maracas Gardens.Police said Diamond suffered head injuries believed to be inflicted by a hammer. In an interview yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre, Federation Park, Castillo's brother, Sheldon, said:
"On that day they spent time together and bought books for the children."
Sheldon said the couple went to a hotel during the day.
"They then had an argument related to sex and the fight continued out to the car," he said.
Sheldon said the couple fought many times in the past but believed Castillo was struck first in the head with a hammer.
He added: "Nigel has a bump in his head like he was hit in the head by the hammer first and he give she back. He was a contractor and the hammer was in the car he rented.
"He was not violent with anybody but she used to tick him off. They did not know anybody in the area or look for help."
Sheldon said they were counselled by relatives many times to stop their fighting.
"There were fights but Nigel knew he wanted to take his own life. He wrote a confession to his half brothers and sisters before he died," Sheldon said. He said the couple had been separated for three months and it was their longest time apart.
"They always used to get back after one week," he added. Sheldon said relatives always were polite to Diamond.
He described Castillo as "hard-working and quiet."
