Flying 200m national record holder Njisane Phillip will take to track again for the Kilometre Time Trial and Individual Pursuit when the National Cycling Championships continue at the Arima Velodrome this evening beginning at 6 pm. Phillip has been in excellent form of late, setting a new venue record (9.91) in the Flying 200m at the Colorado Springs' 7-Eleven Velodrome last month as well as improving on his national record in the same event (10.720) in Arima over the weekend.
The championships will serve as preparation for the Pan American Games in Mexico next month as well as the World Cup Cycling Championship in Russia in December. Phillip's performances at the World Cup will be a crucial factor in his bid to qualify for the London Olympics in 2012. Should he qualify, he will become the first T&T cyclist to do so since Gene Samuel at Barcelona in 1992.
