Three tem­po­rary sen­a­tors have been ap­point­ed by Act­ing Pres­i­dent Tim­o­thy Hamel-Smith ac­cord­ing to a re­lease is­sued by the Gov­ern­ment In­for­ma­tion Ser­vices Ltd (GISL). The ap­point­ments are be­ing made un­der Sec­tion 40 (2) of the T&T Con­sti­tu­tion. Dr Lennox Bernard is to tem­porar­i­ly re­place In­de­pen­dent Sen­a­tor El­ton Prescott from to­mor­row. Sen­a­tor Prescott is ex­pect­ed to be out of the coun­try.

Pro­fes­sor Karl Theodore is be­ing ap­point­ed with ef­fect from to­mor­row for In­de­pen­dent Sen­a­tor Dr Vic­tor Wheel­er, for the du­ra­tion of his ab­sence from T&T. For­mer San Fer­nan­do Deputy May­or Ra­bindra Moo­nan is be­ing ap­point­ed as a tem­po­rary Gov­ern­ment Sen­a­tor while the Pres­i­dent of the Sen­ate ­­is act­ing Head of State. Pres­i­dent George Maxwell Richards is out of the coun­try on va­ca­tion.
