Sixty people have been arrested during a crime sweep in the Southern Division over the weekend, including two Chinese nationals who broke the curfew. The exercise was conducted by Senior Supt Deolal Dulalchan, ASP Zamsheed Mohammed, Insp Parsons and officers of the Southern Division Task Force and CID. A total of 20 people were arrested for outstanding warrants, five for breach of curfew, 15 for narcotics, five for driving under the influence of alcohol and four for possession of illicit spirits. Six others were charged with robbery, one for indecent assault and four others for larceny.
Police said they were continuing to keep vigilance in hot spots. With regards to the indecent assault, a 49-year-old gardener was nabbed at his Robert Village, Tableland, home. It is alleged that on Friday, the suspect picked up a 15-year-old girl to do a day's work at his garden. Instead of carrying her to the garden, he pulled over to the side of the M2 Ring Road and fondled her. The girl made a report to the police. PC Teeluck later arrested and charged the suspect. He will appear in court today.
