Five-year-old Kristina Pompey will not complete her schooling. The little girl was crushed to death when a wooden bed fell on her. The incident happened at Kristina's home, Green Drive, Patna Village, Diego Martin.
Kristina, a First Year student of Diamond Vale Government Primary School, died at the St James District Hospital on Sunday around 10.30 am. In an interview at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital yesterday, Kristina's mother, Kimberly Pompey, said she was shocked after receiving the autopsy results. The results revealed Kristina died of several cerebral injuries and a fractured skull.
Kimberly, a mother of three, said the house was under renovation and Kristina went in the bedroom to see her father, Adriel. Adriel, a mason by trade, was doing work on the house. "I was in the kitchen and I just gave them (children) some bananas and watermelon to eat. She got up and ran into the bedroom when I heard her father calling," she said. Kimberly said when she ran into the bedroom she saw her daughter with the heavy bed on top of her. She added: "She was so excited to go to school and she just couldn't wait to start last week. "She told me she wanted us to have another baby. She has a sister so she wanted her brother to have a brother." Kimberly said.
Adriel said: "She always used to like watching me work. She came into the bedroom when I was doing the ceiling and the bed just fall down." Kimberly said Kristina liked to sing calypso and dance. West End Police are continuing inquiries.
