A Pe­nal truck dri­ver yes­ter­day was grant­ed $600,000 bail with a sure­ty af­ter be­ing charged with steal­ing a 40- foot ship­ping con­tain­er car­ry­ing a sup­ply of toi­letries and med­ica­tion. Bri­an Gadraj, of Mendes Trace, Scott Road, Pe­nal, plead­ed not guilty to the of­fence when he ap­peared be­fore Chief Mag­is­trate Mar­cia Ay­ers-Cae­sar in the Port-of-Spain Mag­is­trates' Court.

It was al­leged Gadraj stole the con­tain­er near the Port-of-Spain port on Au­gust 17. The con­tain­er, be­long­ing to an in­ter­na­tion­al phar­ma­ceu­ti­cal com­pa­ny, con­tained tooth­paste, tooth­brush­es, painkillers and antacids, with a to­tal val­ue of $415,079.13. The con­tain­er and its con­tents have yet to be re­cov­ered. Gadraj was rep­re­sent­ed by at­tor­ney Michelle Solomon and the mat­ter was ad­journed to Oc­to­ber 12.
