A Laventille man, who police said was being sought in connection with the stabbing of his estranged wife, drank a poison before the police attempted to arrest him. Police said Ellis Clark, of Pashley Street, who was the main suspect in the attempted murder of his estranged wife, Norma Harewood Clark, died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital on Tuesday night. A report said around 5.45 am on September 6, Norma was accosted at her Coconut Drive, Morvant, home. Detectives said Clark stabbed Norma several times in the chest and abdomen. She was taken to the hospital where she remained warded up to late yesterday.
North Eastern Division Task Force officers went to Clark's home on Tuesday and knocked at the door. Clark opened it and then closed it. The lawmen broke down the door and found Clark in a back room lying on the ground. Police said he was frothing from his mouth and a bottle of lanate was near his body. He was taken to the hospital where he died around 7.35 pm. Cpl Allan Norton of the Morvant Police Station is continuing investigations.
