Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 28-year-old pregnant woman who reportedly died after accidentally setting herself on fire on Tuesday night. Investigators say they have not ruled out foul play in the death of Chaguanas vendor Geeta Seegobin. She was said to be three months' pregnant. According to reports, Seegobin, of Goodwill Road, Enterprise, left her home to visit a male companion who lives a short distance away at Charles Street. At around 11 pm, Seegobin and the man were drinking puncheon rum when some of the alcohol accidentally spilled on her clothes.
Seegobin then lit a cigarette which somehow came into contact with her dress causing her clothing to ignite. The flames were brought under control with the assistance of the male friend. Seegobin was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility by ambulance, where she received emergency treatment, but succumbed to her injuries shortly after. Woman Corporal John, of the Chaguanas CID, is continuing investigations.
