Po­lice re­spond­ing to a shoot­ing at East­ern Quar­ry in Laven­tille on Wednes­day night shot and killed a Laven­tille man. Shemel Hen­ry, 24, of Up­per Er­i­ca Street, died at the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal. De­tec­tives said they seized a firearm at the scene of the shoot­ing. In­ves­ti­ga­tors said they had a re­port from some­one claim­ing he was phys­i­cal­ly as­sault­ed and shot at by a man around 10.30 pm. When In­ter Agency Task Force of­fi­cers re­spond­ed a man was seen bran­dish­ing some­thing like a firearm. He was lat­er iden­ti­fied as Hen­ry.

Po­lice said they or­dered Hen­ry to put the weapon down but he did not com­ply. De­tec­tives said the of­fi­cers, fear­ing for their lives, shot at Hen­ry once. He was tak­en to the hos­pi­tal where he died, po­lice said. Po­lice said the vic­tim lat­er iden­ti­fied Hen­ry as the man who phys­i­cal­ly as­sault­ed and shot at him ear­li­er. Mean­while, the head­less corpse found float­ing off Monos Is­land on Wednes­day had not been iden­ti­fied up to late yes­ter­day. Po­lice said the body was "bad­ly de­com­posed" and the left arm was al­so miss­ing. Care­nage po­lice and of­fi­cers of the Homi­cide Bu­reau are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions.
