Police responding to a shooting at Eastern Quarry in Laventille on Wednesday night shot and killed a Laventille man. Shemel Henry, 24, of Upper Erica Street, died at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Detectives said they seized a firearm at the scene of the shooting. Investigators said they had a report from someone claiming he was physically assaulted and shot at by a man around 10.30 pm. When Inter Agency Task Force officers responded a man was seen brandishing something like a firearm. He was later identified as Henry.
Police said they ordered Henry to put the weapon down but he did not comply. Detectives said the officers, fearing for their lives, shot at Henry once. He was taken to the hospital where he died, police said. Police said the victim later identified Henry as the man who physically assaulted and shot at him earlier. Meanwhile, the headless corpse found floating off Monos Island on Wednesday had not been identified up to late yesterday. Police said the body was "badly decomposed" and the left arm was also missing. Carenage police and officers of the Homicide Bureau are continuing investigations.
