A Rio Claro teen died in a ve­hic­u­lar ac­ci­dent ear­ly yes­ter­day morn­ing. Princes Town fire of­fi­cers used the "jaws of life" to cut Christo­pher Gillard, 19, out of the wreck­age of his grey Kia ve­hi­cle short­ly af­ter 1 am. Gillard was re­turn­ing home along the Na­pari­ma-Ma­yaro Road when he col­lid­ed head-on with a car dri­ven by Cpl Mo­hammed, of the Rio Claro Po­lice Sta­tion.

Po­lice said there were no wit­ness­es to the ac­ci­dent. Gillard died at the scene while Mo­hammed, of Princes Town, was rushed to the San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal where he re­mained ward­ed in a crit­i­cal con­di­tion. Cpl Sama­roo of the Rio Claro Sta­tion is in­ves­ti­gat­ing.
