Three curfew breakers were yesterday given 28 days to pay $4,500 in fines. The men Carl Paris, Siewdass Ganesar and Otis Remy all pleaded guilty when they appeared before Magistrate Alicia Chankar in the San Fernando First Court. They were each fined $1,500 or three months imprisonment. Paris was arrested around 11.35 pm on Saturday after a police officer saw him staggering along Naparima Mayaro Road, Cocoyea.
Prosecutor Sgt Gordon Maharaj said Parris had a half-full beer bottle in his hand. Paris told the magistrate that he had an argument with his wife and he left his house. Ganesar, a contractor, was arrested around 1.20 am along the San Fernando Bypass. Sgt Gordon said the police found Ganesar behind the steering wheel of a parked car in the vicinity of Scott Street. His lawyer Dexter Bailey said Ganesar was transporting workers from Trinidad Cement Limited to Penal when he encountered car problems. Remy was arrested around 11.30 pm on Sunday at Ruth Avenue, San Fernando. He told the magistrate that he was outside at that hour because he could not get a taxi.
