An Arima woman is being questioned in connection with investigations into last week's rape of a mother and daughter in Longdenville. Police probing the incident said items belonging to the victims were found in the woman's possession. On Monday night, officers from the Chaguanas CID, led by acting Senior Superintendent Johnny Abraham, went to a house near Victory Heights. Investigators said they found the female suspect with a chain and pendant belonging to one of the victim's. The victim's name was inscribed on the pendant. The female suspect was taken to the station where she was questioned for receiving the stolen item.
Last Thursday, a 49-year-old bank employee and her 17-year-old daughter were raped by four men at their home in Longdenville. The intruders stole a quantity of cash and jewelry before escaping in the victims' vehicle. On Monday, the woman and her daughter were discharged from hospital and were taken to a safe house in an undisclosed location. A senior Central Division officer said: "We have asked the family not to disclose information about their whereabouts, not even to their relatives. This is a serious crime and we are doing all we can to protect them."
Three of the suspects, between the ages of 18 to 23, were arrested over the weekend. They are expected to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate today. Hours after the incident, two of the suspects were held at their homes at Construction Street and School Street, Enterprise. On Saturday another suspect surrendered to police in Port-of-Spain. The search is on for the fourth man who promised police he would turn himself in on Saturday. Up to yesterday he remained at large. Acting Sergeant Susan John is continuing investigations.
