Cops make .25m ganja find in Moruga

Detectives of the South Western Divisional Task Force executed a search in a bushy area at Moruga yesterday and recovered a shotgun, cartridges and a crocus bag filled with loose marijuana. Investigators said a team of officers led by Supt Franklin Sampath and including Insp Seedarie, Actg Sgt Sheldon Ablacksingh, Cpl Jessie Jitmansingh and PC’s Jamaldin and Scipio, went to the fishing village of La Lune, Moruga where they executed a search.

The shotgun, cartridge and the bag of marijuana were found hidden in some bushes a short distance away from the main road. The marijuana which weighed 25 kilograms, carried a street value of $250,000. No one was arrested. The gun is expected to be sent for ballistic testing. Police said since the state of emergency criminals had taken refuge in the forests of Moruga. Officers said they will continue patrols in specific areas to flush out the criminals.
