A 22-year-old gardener was shot dead on Thursday while on his way to his garden at Plantation Road, Valencia. Roger Ali, who also worked "PH" off Valencia Old Road, was found with one gunshot wound to his head, police said. Police believe he was killed with a shotgun. His death pushed the murder toll to 285 for the year and 19 since the state of emergency was implemented on August 21. A report said around 6.30 pm, Ali's brother, Rasheed Ali, went to the garden to look for him, believing he was still there.
When he arrived, Ali was found lying on the side of the road. His brother shook him and realised he had a wound to his face. He immediately notified the police. Acting superintendent Hendron Moses, Inspector Worrell and Sgt Harris were among the officers who visited the scene. The body was viewed by the district medical officer and ordered removed to the Forensic Science Centre, St James, for an autopsy. Detectives said Ali, who planted short crops, was last seen on Thursday morning before going to the garden. Detectives said they had no motive for his death since there were no signs of a robbery. Homicide officers are continuing investigations.
