A 29-year-old man who shot at an off-du­ty po­lice of­fi­cer in a bid to es­cape was killed when a ten-wheel­er truck ploughed in­to him. Joshua Sam­my, of Re­form Vil­lage, Gas­par­il­lo, was at bar in the area around 5.20 pm on Sat­ur­day when a fe­male pa­tron no­ticed that he took out a gun from his waist and put it on an ice­box.

The pa­tron im­me­di­ate­ly alert­ed PC Singh, of the San Fer­nan­do Po­lice Sta­tion, who was off du­ty and who was al­so at the bar. When the of­fi­cer chal­lenged Sam­my, he ran out­side and fired two shots at the of­fi­cer. The truck, head­ing in the op­po­site di­rec­tion, slammed in­to Sam­my. A .38 re­volver was re­cov­ered on the scene.
