Dis­traught fam­i­ly mem­bers of ex­pec­tant moth­er Ny­ca Fos­ter, 29, who died at San Fer­nan­do Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal are call­ing for im­me­di­ate an­swers. Fos­ter's death on Sat­ur­day prompt­ed the South West Re­gion­al Health Au­thor­i­ty (SWRHA) to launch an im­me­di­ate probe. Fos­ter was the third preg­nant woman to die at the in­sti­tu­tion over the last month.Speak­ing at the fam­i­ly's home on Cof­fee Street, La Brea, yes­ter­day, Fos­ter's grand­moth­er, Mer­lin Pe­ters, said she want­ed an­swers about the cir­cum­stances sur­round­ing the death. She ques­tioned why moth­er and child had to die.

Hos­pi­tal re­ports stat­ed that Fos­ter died af­ter suf­fer­ing an epilep­tic seizure. Pe­ters con­firmed that Fos­ter suf­fered from the ill­ness. How­ev­er, she is not con­vinced that the seizure caused the death. She said that while Fos­ter suf­fered from the ill­ness, there were no seizures for a long time. She re­called: "She was eight, go­ing on nine months' preg­nant and on Tues­day she went to clin­ic at Point Fortin. "She came back and she told me that she was mak­ing ba­by next month and she was smil­ing and rub­bing her bel­ly," Pe­ters said.

"That night she took in with a pain and I heard her bawl­ing. "When I asked her what hap­pened she said she could not speak. "I told her hus­band to called an am­bu­lance and they rushed her to the Point Fortin hos­pi­tal and then they sent her to San Fer­nan­do." Fos­ter's aunt, Myr­tle St Rose, said on Sat­ur­day morn­ing, they went to see the doc­tor at his re­quest, but when they ar­rived he was not there. She said it was while they were about to leave Fos­ter died.
