Six Venezuelan nationals were arrested yesterday during a police exercise at Alfredo Street, Woodbrook. Police said the three men and three women, who had "no papers," were handed over to Immigration officers yesterday morning. Meanwhile, two roadblocks were set up and several houses were searched between 7.30 pm on Sunday and 2 am yesterday at Ariapita Avenue and Warren Street. A total of 15 tickets were issued to motorists for driving without a seatbelt, talking on a cellphone while driving, driving a vehicle without a permit and insurance and 11 people were arrested on outstanding warrants. Police said heavy tints were removed from vehicles. The exercise was led by ASP Ajith Persad and Cpl Anthony Spence.
Officers of the Port-of-Spain CID, Crime Investigations and Criminal Records Office took part in the exercise. In Northern Division, 52 ticket warrants were executed, 35 people were arrested in Sangre Grande on Sunday night. A $2,000 ticket also was issued to a reporter at a daily newspapers on Sunday night in San Juan. Traffic Branch officers stopped the reporter while he was travelling along the Priority Bus Route around 10 pm. He was ticketed for using the Priority Bus Route without a pass.
