A cor­po­ral at­tached to the Scar­bor­ough Po­lice Sta­tion has been de­tained by po­lice dur­ing a "sting" op­er­a­tion on Mon­day night af­ter he al­leged­ly rent­ed out his ser­vice weapon to a man. The of­fi­cer was ar­rest­ed for al­leged­ly rent­ing out a 9mm gun, left for safe-keep­ing at the po­lice sta­tion, to a man known to po­lice. Ac­cord­ing to re­ports, the of­fi­cer was sus­pect­ed of the act over a pe­ri­od of time af­ter the ar­rest of two oth­er po­lice of­fi­cers for the same of­fence in 2009.A po­lice source said the cor­po­ral was ar­rest­ed short­ly be­fore 7 pm on Mon­day af­ter hav­ing been un­der sur­veil­lance for some­time.While be­ing in­ter­ro­gat­ed by in­ves­ti­ga­tors, he suf­fered a heart at­tack and had to be rushed to the Scar­bor­ough Hos­pi­tal. Up to late yes­ter­day he was said to be un­con­scious and his con­di­tion was list­ed as crit­i­cal.The op­er­a­tion was car­ried out by of­fi­cers from the Or­gan­ised Crime, Nar­cotics, and Firearm Bu­reau and the Crim­i­nal In­tel­li­gence Unit.
