Minister Dookeran declared the 2011-2012 budget of $47 billion was derived based on an oil price of US$75 per barrel and a gas price of US$2.75 per mm btu.
The government projected that $18.1b will come form the energy sector while $18.9b will be collected from the non-energy sectors.
Expenditure for the fiscal year is projected at $54.6 billion, representing a budget deficit of $7.6 billion.
The Finance Minister said that the government expects a 1.7 percent growth in Gross Domestic Products (GDP) for the next fiscal year with an inflation rate of seven percent.
Citizens entitled to national Insurance benefits will have the following amendments made to the current structure:
A minimum monthly retirement pension of $3,000 up from $2,000
An increase in the insurable monthly income ceiling figure of $8,300 to $10,000
Elimination of the fixed structure use to evaluate retirement benefits to a 1 percent of monthly salary up to $10,000
Efforts to Have self employed citizens included in the NIS benefits
A waiver of penalties for the late submission of National insurance payments. The waiver extends to June 30, 2012, and is for penalties accrued prior to Cotober 10, 1011.

The Public Service Transport Corporation is currently exploring the idea of switching to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel instead of diesel
