The People's National Movement (PNM) is again attempting to hold a post budget meeting. Venue this time, the Arima Town Hall. Speaking at the party's General Council meeting yesterday, party chairman Franklin Khan said a letter had been faxed to the Office of the Commissioner of Police (CoP) requesting permission to convene the meeting.
"While we are aware under the state of emergency we have lost our right to assemble and engage in political activity, it still provides for permission to be granted from the CoP for such activity. It is a budget meeting that has been taking place since 1987. It poses absolutely no threat to anyone," Khan said. The PNM's application to hold such meeting last week was turned down.
