Schol­ar­ship win­ner Sera Ramdeo is urg­ing young­sters to get a good ed­u­ca­tion­al foun­da­tion. She was ad­dress­ing the Di­vali cel­e­bra­tions be­ing con­duct­ed at the Palmiste Gov­ern­ment School on Fri­day. Ramdeo, who won a schol­ar­ship for busi­ness when she wrote the 2011 CAPE A-Lev­el ex­ams, was ho­n­oured at the school's Di­vali oc­ca­sion. Ramdeo said she re­ceived a sound ed­u­ca­tion at Palmiste which laid the ground­work for her lat­er stud­ies at the sec­ondary and ter­tiary lev­els.

She said while all teach­ers at the pri­ma­ry school con­tributed, she paid spe­cial trib­ute to her Stan­dard Five teacher Mu­ni­ram Sookdeo. She said many stu­dents re­ceive the ad­di­tion­al push at the stan­dard five lev­el and they need a teacher with an added edge to do just that. Ramdeo urged par­ents to in­still a sense of ed­u­ca­tion­al val­ues es­pe­cial­ly the love of read­ing at an ear­ly age. Stu­dents at the school par­tic­i­pat­ed in an art and craft and po­et­ry con­test and their work was on show on Fri­day. Prizes were spon­sored by school prin­ci­pal San­dra Chan Chow.
