Scholarship winner Sera Ramdeo is urging youngsters to get a good educational foundation. She was addressing the Divali celebrations being conducted at the Palmiste Government School on Friday. Ramdeo, who won a scholarship for business when she wrote the 2011 CAPE A-Level exams, was honoured at the school's Divali occasion. Ramdeo said she received a sound education at Palmiste which laid the groundwork for her later studies at the secondary and tertiary levels.
She said while all teachers at the primary school contributed, she paid special tribute to her Standard Five teacher Muniram Sookdeo. She said many students receive the additional push at the standard five level and they need a teacher with an added edge to do just that. Ramdeo urged parents to instill a sense of educational values especially the love of reading at an early age. Students at the school participated in an art and craft and poetry contest and their work was on show on Friday. Prizes were sponsored by school principal Sandra Chan Chow.
