Businesses should focus on human need and not on human greed-where everyone collectively enjoys the benefits, instead of all profits going to only the shareholders. The statement was made in the context of the United Nations General Assembly's declaration of 2012 as 'The International Year of Co-operatives', aimed at celebrating "a different way of doing business". In commemoration of its 'International Week' (October 17 to 22) this year, the International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPS) centred its events on the UN's 2012 proclamation and on its theme-Co-operative Enterprises Build a Better World-in order to captivate the attention of the public on the advantages provided by the co-operative model.
At the opening assembly held on Monday in the school's gymnasium, ISPS took the opportunity to highlight the relationship its Grade 7 'Watershed' Class had with the Fondes Amandes Reforestation community in Fondes Amandes, St Ann's. Managing director and co-founder of the Fondes Amandes Community Reforestation Project (FACRP), Akilah Jaramogi, was lauded for her active engagement in new forest conservation and rehabilitation methods within the Fondes Amandes community.
