A 64-year-old grandmother yesterday was granted $75,000 bail after being charged with drug trafficking. Rookmin Ramdial, of Pentecostal Street, El Dorado, was not called upon to plea when she appeared before Magistrate Gail Gonzales in the Tunapuna First Magistrates' Court. A frail Ramdial had to be assisted by Court and Process officers and sat in a wheelchair while the charges were read by Gonzales."
It was alleged that during a raid at her home, officers of the Tunapuna CID discovered 104.5 grammes of cocaine hidden in Ramdial's underwear. Her attorney, Nicholas Rampersadsingh, in his bail application told the court his client was clearly not a flight risk as she was almost bedridden. Gonzales placed Ramdial's daughter as surety for the bail. The matter was adjourned to November 18. (DA)
