Di­rec­tor of the Pub­lic Af­fairs Unit of the Po­lice Ser­vice, Sharon Lee As­sang, says crime has been the low­est in the past month than any month in the past 20 years. Lee As­sang was speak­ing at yes­ter­day's news con­fer­ence at the Po­lice Ad­min­is­tra­tion Build­ing, Port-of-Spain. "This Oc­to­ber record­ed 11 homi­cides for the month which is the small­est num­ber per month in the past 20 years," she said.

She said the homi­cide fig­ure stood at 297 for the year com­pared with 397 last year. Lee As­sang al­so said the Or­gan­ised Crime, Firearms and Nar­cotics Bu­reau re­cov­ered a firearm on Thurs­day night at La Re­source Road in Arou­ca. A re­port said around 11.15 pm, the of­fi­cers went to a bam­boo patch and dis­cov­ered a firearm with six rounds of am­mu­ni­tion in a black plas­tic bag.
