A med­ical prac­ti­tion­er is re­port­ed to have com­mit­ted sui­cide yes­ter­day morn­ing by set­ting him­self on fire at his home in Val­sayn. Po­lice said Dr Dale Char­ran of Bu­tu Road in Val­sayn south died on the spot. A re­port said Char­ran went to a gar­den area in his back­yard and threw gaso­line on him­self around 11 am. Rel­a­tives im­me­di­ate­ly no­ti­fied the po­lice.

Act­ing Se­nior David Abra­ham, Sgts Ve­tus Her­nan­dez, Sgt Dhram Ram­choo and a par­ty of of­fi­cers from the Tu­na­puna Po­lice Sta­tion vis­it­ed the scene. The body was viewed by the dis­trict med­ical of­fi­cer and or­dered re­moved to the Foren­sic Sci­ence Cen­tre for an au­top­sy. Fam­i­ly mem­bers told po­lice that Char­ran did not show signs that he was de­pressed.
