Consul General for the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago Rudrawatee Nan Ramgoolam hosted a Divali celebration at the Consulate's premises in downtown New York on Tuesday. Invited guests included Consul Generals from the Caribbean Community based in New York, Trinidad and Tobago Diaspora, US government officials and friends of the Consulate.
The programme was a collaborative initiative with the Shiva Mandir in Richmond Hills, Queens, New York, which illustrated the meaning of Divali through bhajans and classical Indian dance. Guests were invited to join the Consul General in lighting deyas and partaking in a traditional Trinidad and Tobago Divali dinner. Contributions were received from Deo Gosine and the New York Alliance Sports and Cultural Club. In addressing guests, Ramgoolam described the importance of Divali in T&T and expressed an interest in engaging the Trinidad and Tobago diaspora in New York.
