Con­sul Gen­er­al for the Re­pub­lic of Trinidad and To­ba­go Rudrawa­tee Nan Ram­goolam host­ed a Di­vali cel­e­bra­tion at the Con­sulate's premis­es in down­town New York on Tues­day. In­vit­ed guests in­clud­ed Con­sul Gen­er­als from the Caribbean Com­mu­ni­ty based in New York, Trinidad and To­ba­go Di­as­po­ra, US gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials and friends of the Con­sulate.

The pro­gramme was a col­lab­o­ra­tive ini­tia­tive with the Shi­va Mandir in Rich­mond Hills, Queens, New York, which il­lus­trat­ed the mean­ing of Di­vali through bha­jans and clas­si­cal In­di­an dance. Guests were in­vit­ed to join the Con­sul Gen­er­al in light­ing deyas and par­tak­ing in a tra­di­tion­al Trinidad and To­ba­go Di­vali din­ner. Con­tri­bu­tions were re­ceived from Deo Go­sine and the New York Al­liance Sports and Cul­tur­al Club. In ad­dress­ing guests, Ram­goolam de­scribed the im­por­tance of Di­vali in T&T and ex­pressed an in­ter­est in en­gag­ing the Trinidad and To­ba­go di­as­po­ra in New York.
